Poem 92

upon a white-sailed lonesome boat,
amidst an ocean, found himself afloat,
an aching anchorite…

awakened from his blinded stupor
by a suddenly sobering gust
of the ocean’s gentle breeze..
he dropped his anchor
and then he stopped to marvel
at all the beauty that he sees.

upon the ocean’s surface
danced its dance..
a source of strength and courage
for the loving anchorite..
a glimmer of moonlight.

he took it in.. and held his breath
then dove right in, eager to learn
what beauties lie within the ocean’s depths…
he found them teeming with life.
a source of joyful inspiration
for the dreaming anchorite.

after he surfaced from his dive..
to keep his hope,
to keep the longing
in his heart alive..
he poured his heart out
into a humble letter..
sealed it in a bottle
and then he threw it overboard
as far as he could..
as far as any aching, loving, dreaming
anchorite would..
in hopes
that one day
it would find its way..
sink its way down..
down to the oceanbed..
the contents of the letter read:

“””
The opportunity
To float upon thy gentle waves
Was a joy that I shall cherish
For many days..
The privilege to dive into thy depth;
however, I shall cherish up until my death.
I would never surface..
were I able to forever hold my breath.

sincerely yours truly,
on a dimly moonlit night..
your aching, loving, dreaming anchorite…
“””
