Poem 818

I blame
the monkeys
on my back..
and not
the shoulders
of the giant
upon which
they sit.

I do not blame
the legs
that stumble
towards yet
another hit..
only the monkey
hands by which
this vessel’s
steered.

I blame the animal.
I do not blame
The Man.
Except for when
I squint my
monkey eyes
to see..
we are one
in the same
again.
