Poem 77

Finally, I think I hear you..
I am forbidden ever to be near you
From now on,
and until the end of sweet and bitter days.
I understand.. do as he says
Or as your heart commands you to
Or as you must for conscience’s sake.
As far as I’m concerned,
What difference does it make?

So be it then
But then again..
What of that heartstring?
That thread of me that has been woven
Deep into your heart?
I wish you best of luck in teasing it apart..
Or maybe don’t.
Maybe just let it be your humble keepsake
of ripples left upon your surface
resting in my wake.
As far as I’m concerned,
What difference does it make?

From now on I will keep my distance.
I’ll do my best to play it fake.
Do what is clearly best for every party’s sake.

Within my lonesome underworld,
Today it is still summer…
But then again,
Upon the end of dark and moonless night
There always comes tomorrow.
And with it comes the sun, our heavenly star.
But by the time it rises, Devil knows, I may be oh so far…
Seeking my fortune on more distant coasts
and sailing over foreign seas.
By then, I may be thriving in another ocean’s gentle breeze.
And though I hate the thought of it right now..
It may be for the better.

These words of love for you may be my final letter.
And though it’s nothing new under the sun..
I tell you one last time. For fun.
Your blinding radiance.. I always will remember.
The way I bloomed within your sight
The way I thrived beneath your sunlight.
A thread of you is woven deep into my heart.
It will remain there many moons after we part.
