Confessions of a Rose
Part III - “al mio amore”
To you, I’m merely words…
sweet words upon a screen.
Merely an innocent moment of presence,
in which I hope you feel truly wanted and seen.
To me, your mere existence
is a dream come true.
Your presence makes me long for a reality
in which I stand right next to you.
In which I hold your body in my hands,
In which I lead you, spin you left and right within a dance.
When it appears to me at night, I find myself awake
in tears of joy and sorrow.
During the day, merely a glimpse of you
restores my hope for a better tomorrow.
Whose fault is it that you’re my source of strength
to keep on fighting?
That you’re my star?
That you’re my lightning?
If Dante’s hell was real,
for but a tremble in your heart
I would embrace damnation in a heartbeat.
For but a moment close to you,
without a moment’s pause,
I’d throw myself straight into its infernal heat.
In truth, however, hell is but a place on earth..
A place quite near you, yet so far away,
where I am forced to dwell..
At the end of a long hallway
is where you may find me,
pining in my prison cell.
Your knock knock knock upon my door
makes my head spin and leads my heart to race.
It’s how I know, for but a moment,
I will get to see your lovely face.
For but an instant..
I will get to lose myself entirely within your gaze.
Where will I find a more profound
and deeper source of inspiration?
Within the faraway mountains and seas?
Within the depths of the underworld?
or within the ocean’s gentle breeze?
Your blinding radiance still puts them all to shame.
Without you, all of it is dull and lifeless..
all of it’s the same.
Why do you think I write these words of love to you,
all night and day?
