Confessions of a Rose
Part II - “all’altro”
I feel no malice towards you
though I suspect that if you know of me
you surely wish me dead..
Believe me, uomo, when I say,
the roles that fates devised for us to play
I could not ever have conceived of in my head…
Alas, the weaving of their tapestry is
out of our control.
Such is the wont of hearts,
they seek the one
that makes them whole.
Despite your wishes for me, surely very kind and nice,
So long as I continue living,
So long as she does not command me otherwise,
So long as I continue breathing,
Know this…
that I am here to stay,
unless she orders me to go far far away.
I tell you only truths, truths that I hope to make you see..
Know this…
only her wishes carry any power over me.
Your only sin, as far as I’m concerned,
is that you surely wish
to be the sole and only keeper of her beauty.
To do the dragon’s guarding duty.
To sit upon her love
just as they sit upon their pile of treasure.
For her to find in you
her sole and only joy and pleasure.
Alas, despite what you may wish,
Her bond to you is not her cage.
I tell you truths to make you see
and not to fill your heart with rage..
I’m sure that there are many ways in which you love her,
that some of them are ways in which I can’t.
I tell you all these truths only to make you understand..
that the reciprocal of what I grant you here is just as true.
She may be yours right now.. but she’s no prisoner to you.
