Poem 679

Chaos is, indeed,
merely a ladder.
And the higher
that we climb..
The more
we grow to
utterly despise
The One who
clambers.

Because the act
of clambering
is done upon
the ladder’s
many steps.
What paves them?
Might it be
the boney skulls
of those who tried
to clamber, but,
in resignation,
chose to bow
their heads?
Upon the ladder
then they found
the peace eternal
in their rest..

What is it..
at the top,
in truth,
that these
poor souls
no longer
willed to
reach?

Why don’t you
see it for yourself?
Why don’t you
try to climb
the ladder too?
I’m sure, unlike
the rest of them,
you’ll reach the top..
and in so doing
teach yourself
its strange
and crooked
truth.
