Poem 613

No ragrets,
Mr. Freeman.
For, already
you have lived
at least a half
of life.

But is not a half
better than nothing?
Was it not a half
brimming with
love and longing,
struggle and despair,
triumph and strife?

Sweet as
Georgia peaches.
Savory as
ol’ American pie.
Alas, half-time
is nigh upon
this tightrope act.

When it’s all over,
I advise you break
a leg. In half.
And you may
also take
your lucky
quarter back..
Until we touch down
on the greener grass
upon The Other Side.

The God I worship now
does not flip coins..
ye wonder why?
Because he is The Devil
of a-many faces..
rolling on a die.
