Poem 610

Climbing a long
and winding
staircase
to this tower’s
spire.

Towards a shrine
that shelters
final embers
of The Devil’s Fire.

Where The Magician
chants her spells
to usher in The Poet’s
grand return.

The path
to our salvation
from above
is indistinguishable
from the path
to our damnation
from below.

Self-immolation.
Born to burn.
Burn to be
born.
