Poem 526

The Shadow falls..
not in the land
of the living,
bathed in sunlight
of reality that is..

Rather instead,
in Death’s
Dream Kingdom.
That which lies
on neither side..
but only in-between.

And thou may toss
a pretty penny
in the fountain of
eternal youth..
but not a shiny dime.

And thou
may try to bribe
The Devil
with a lucky quarter..
but it takes
a mighty dollar
for the silver-tongued
to speak his truth
in rhymes.

The only currency
that either one
of them accepts
is minted
on the press
of time.
