What’s pressure good for?
Oh.. so.. many things.
Pressure is good
for pumping blood
throughout the body..
which then helps
the living tissues
feed and breathe.
It takes a lot of pressure
to make diamonds
out of humble
coal.
Within a car’s
combustion engine
pressure also plays
a critical role.
Its fluctuations
in the cylinder
is what compels
the pistons
to move up and down.
And the transduction
of these forces
to transmission
through the crankshaft
ultimately drives
the wheels
to keep on turning..
round and round.
Alas, in certain systems
lowering the pressure
is a means
to better reach
one’s ends.
It takes less energy
to boil a pot of water
when less pressure
is applied to it
by the surrounding air.
In that same vein,
a drop
in atmospheric pressure
also helps
the warm and moist air
rise..
which plants the seed
for an upcoming
storm.
Whether that end
is good or bad
is up to the observer..
The One who gazeth
straight into The Eye..
of The Cyclone.
