Poem 408

Fool me once?
Shame on you!
Fool me twice?
Shame on me!
Fool me thrice?
You are
The Crimson
Monarch..
Resting on
a throne of lies..
I see!

You never
planned
to lead us
out of Egypt.
You said
you would
merely to pull
your wool
over our eyes..
and in so doing
win our blind
allegiance..
while remaining
in disguise.

But now
that you’ve
run out
of wooly thread
to spin..
what is there
left?
A gray
and wolfish evil
wrapped in sheepskin..
Preaching Death.

Who could’ve
possibly wondered..
Who could’ve
possibly guessed..
That of all the angels..
by The Devil
all along we were
misled.
