Poem 400

What does it take..
to truly live?
Instead of merely
staying just alive..
It takes an ear,
that’s keenly tuned..
to hear the silent
music of our life.

The faith and patience
not to agonize
over an outcome..
but instead to sit in quiet.
Sit and listen on a beach.
The temple bells that ring
upon the oceanbed..
indeed have many truths
to teach.

For, they are swayed
by water currents..
categorically
imperceptible
to sighted eyes.
The tunes they play
are truths, to which
through inference
alone..
one cannot simply
just arrive.

The sort of truths
that are the reason
for the Sisyphean smile.
The reason why,
upon completing
his ascent
to highest summit..
every time he cries..
a-many tears of joy
and not of grief.

He cries not
from futility
of having pushed
upon the heaviest
of stones..
only to watch it
roll downhill.
He cries
from sweet relief
of having exercised
his will..
until another labor
was complete.

And then he rings
a dusty bell
upon the highest
summit temple..
as a teasing gesture
to The Elder Gods,
indeed.
For, though
the weight
they laid on him
was heaviest
of all he ever
carried..
Still he stands,
upright and tall,
upon his feet.
