Poem 398

The worst thing
you can do
to someone..
is to yearn for them
and to idealize.
To put them high
upon a pedestal
that scrapes
the skies.

For, though it feels
quite nice to rest
up there..
it’s colder
than the center
of The Earth.
The coldest circle
of eternal hell..
ask Judas Iscariot..
he knows it well.

The higher
that you sit
upon a pedestal..
the further
you’ll eventually
have to fall.
And when finally,
you hit the ground..
the force of impact
ends up shattering
your every bone.

For, all of us
have some variety
of craven, prideful,
wrathful, or profane
that hides on our
inside.
If you’re exempt
from it..
my compliments!
On either being
clueless..
or a bold-faced
liar.

Nayy,
those who truly
love us..
do so not by
turning
the blinded eye.
Rather
they truly love by seeing
all that
ugliness on full display..
and yet
still loving us in spite of it
anyways.

They see it clearly..
but they don’t
allow it to define us.
So that we may grow
beyond our ugly selves.
To have someone
who loves you good
like this..
that is the highest
form of wealth.
