Poem 388

Every good story
must come to
an end.
But do not cry
on that account,
dear friend.

Nobody likes a book
that drags on for too long..
Ain’t nobody got time
to listen
to a 30-minute song.
And if the play I wrote
would take a troupe
of seasoned actors
30 hours to perform..
then I’m afraid
they would collapse
from sheer exhaustion..
by the time
my lovely audience,
in agonizing boredom,
would already long ago
have stumbled home.

Thankfully,
the final chapter
now is drawing neigh..
we’re almost there.
And I hold utmost faith
that all of it ends well.
If we continue living
truthfully in our
present moment..
up until The End.

Until the mermaid sings..
Until the little sparrow flies
with free and open wings..
Until we hear
triumphant trumpets
of God’s band..
Until this humble hermit,
high upon The Mountain,
rings his final bell..
and that shall be
his sweet and reverent
farewell.
