It’s no great feat
to let a part of you
just die..
much harder
of an engineering
puzzle..
is returning
perished ones
to life.
My highest purpose
used to be
to push the boundary
of what is known.
Upon the darkest
of our ignorance..
I used to shed
a joyful light.
How did I let it dim?
when, once upon a time,
it used to shine
so bright..
I know
it still lies in me..
though it doesn’t
any longer
breathe.
What is there left
for me to do?
except continue
holding faith..
until I gather
enough strength..
to once again
resuscitate
that old belief.
And so,
I press upon
this hollow vessel
time and time again..
however many times
it needs..
until its heart
remembers
how to beat.
