Poem 357

People from your past
are potent triggers
of old patterns.
For, when you gaze
upon them,
it’s not merely them
you see..
They are a mirror
for a version of yourself
that lived..
back when their presence
really mattered..
before it shattered.

The Ones reminding you
of just how weak you felt..
when cold
and lonesome silence
filled the absence
in their stead..
And when you carelessly
decide to open up to them
again..
It reawakens all of what
was better off
just staying dead.

Nobody need be
made into a villain..
For, everybody does
what’s right for them.
Forgive..
but love yourself
as well.
And keep a healthy
distance..
from The Ones
who hurt you
then.
