None of us know..
and even when
we take the leap
and fully commit..
Whether we’ll truly be
a constant
in somebody else’s
story..
or merely a mention..
notable, but brief.
The fear
of our beloved
moving past us
is, however, rooted
not in love.
It is a product
of our self-importance
being threatened
in their life..
depending on how fates
may draw their lot.
I think to love someone
with pure commitment..
is to truthfully embrace
your role within
their narrative..
for however long
you actually
have a role to play.
And if they feel
they must let go of you
in their pursuit
of happiness elsewhere..
That is also ok.
For, ultimately
truthfulness of our love
is not best measured
by how long
we cling to somebody..
in vain attempts
to make them
stick around.
The impact
that our love
produced upon
their heart..
that lingers even
in our aftermath..
is where the value
of the love we gave
may truly be found.
