Poem 329

Why do you frighten
of The Devil?
Little sparrow..
My sweet child.
Is it unsettling
how I can see
right through you
without looking..
merely by gazing
at reflections
of your phantom
in God’s eye?
Being seen is scary,
yes, indeed..
rest easy though,
for, being passively
observed
can never truly
make you bleed.

I know..
you’re seeing me as well,
though prove it I cannot..
but then again,
can not the very same
as easily be said
of The Almighty God?
Fret not.. I’m well aware
that I am quite the awe
and terror to behold.
Through eye alone
one cannot see it..
for, it is a beauty
that only the heart
has the capacity
to blindly hold.

The form and essence
of my Geist
is burrowed
deep within you..
and though
it churns your gut,
you cannot seem
to turn your head
the other way.
However hard you try
to find its replica
in others..
however many times
you cry..
in vain attempts
to pray it all away.

And what is it
about me
that is so ineffable?
The quality to which
you cannot seem
to give a proper name?
Is it the many masks
that decorate my
one too many
hidden face?

The One I show you
in the light of day
is generally
cordial and sweet..
The Ones that hide
in shadows of the night
are every flavor
of the rainbow
that you can conceive..
quite literally dizzying
in all the many tongues
that they can speak.
Which one of them
am I in earnest?
Little sparrow..
I’m The All of them,
in flesh and deed.

I’m so much more
than meets The Eye.
Unless of course,
The Eye
we speak of here
is The All-seeing..
The One to which
neither of us
can ever hope to lie.

Of course, however,
what I speak of here
may not be true.
Maybe The Devil
plants deceitful seeds
in his own head.
But then again..
Did Jesus cast out demons
by the will of their own
sovereign?
I didn’t think so.
Riddle me this now..
Why would The Devil
then endeavor
to deceive
himself?
