Poem 327

Upon the crucifix
even The Son of Man
was torn and shaken.
He cried out
to the silent heavens
in His anguish:
“My God, My God..
Why have you
forsaken me?”

How is it possible
that even Him..
The Word incarnate..
seemingly could lose
His faith?
Was it because
they mocked at Him
and spit directly
in His face?

Was it the desert heat
that scorched His skin?
Or was it the thirst?
How could it be that
in His weakest..
even Jesus feared
the worst?

Was it because
upon the crucifix
He felt alone?
When God is silent..
who is left to help us
bear the burden..
of The Heaviest Stone?

Indeed, even
the strongest ones
amongst us
now and then
receive a beating..
severe enough
to make them
lose their strength.
Though you may
walk the walk
all night and day..
and always
do your best to go
the furthest length..
it only takes
a weakness in one link
to break
even the strongest
chain.

What matters more
is whether you’re committed
in the aftermath
to mend it back together.
It’s true, that even Jesus
faltered in His faith..
His connection
to The Ever-Loving
He, however, didn’t sever.
He strayed from it,
but momentarily..
before surrendering again,
with greater strength
to hold His faith forever.

Dear God,
I pray that
all of us
may find it
in ourselves
to do the same
together.
To find our way
back to our faith..
however far
from it before
we may have
strayed.
