Poem 314

Now that my
chess match
with The Devil
has concluded..
who else is there
still left for me
to challenge?
Other than
The Fifth One,
known as Death.

Every ambitious man
at one point tried
to play her..
but not a single one
has triumphed
over her quite yet.
Not one
has even gotten close
to forcing a stalemate.
For, each and every
move against her
that you take..
eventually leads
to your inevitable
checkmate.

However early,
however late..
Death comes
for all of us.
Such is our
mortal fate.
No other choice
is given..
other than to play.

I hope she knows..
the cost of capturing
this piece of work
is hell to pay.
I may not ever win,
but I shall never
bow to her
without a fight.
I’ll make her sweat
before she tastes
sweet triumph..
once upon a dark
and moonless
night.
