I used to believe
in a pot of luck..
at the other end
of the rainbow.
So I hopped
into my truck
and cruised
ever so slowly..
to eventually
make it there.
And it was nearly
quite in sight.
I could almost
see the gold
that lay inside..
glimmering
in every color
on the spectrum..
of rainbowy light.
But this
gas pedal-happy
rabbit’s foot
forgot to hit the break.
I drove right past it.
Through the guardrails.
Straight into another lake.
Now,
as I’m drowning
yet again..
I cannot help
but contemplate.
Why must it be
so easy to mistake..
A leprechaunish
fortune..
for a pot of fake.
Perhaps again
my soul was sold..
for but a pot
of gilded nothing.
Nothing..
but fool’s gold.
