Poem 25

Loose ends,
Tight feelings in my chest,
Tied to the drowning past,
Surrender fills my lungs at last,
But somehow I’m still swimming.

Tugging and pulling my heartstrings,
Guiding my mortal frame,
Though by the day we grow stronger,
Heart’s strength is its greatest strain.

So I remain suspended over sorrow,
And I refuse to sleep,
And I refuse to let it be tomorrow,
And yet I am still sinking.
