The Book of Love
Part IV - To Be The Dead
if however,
one of the lovers
is a scaredy rabbit or
a sneaky bird of prey..
all while the other
is a scary, chasy wolf,
or better still..
a weathered hunter
with good aim..
then once again
initiates between them
yet another hopeless game..
though mutually tempting,
reliably not bearing any fruit.
it is a game well known
to one-eyed
blindly loving desperados..
as an absurdity we call:
the cycle of pursuit.
because who doesn’t love
to be admired madly?
and yet..
to yearn for someone
and to love them
is not nearly
quite the same..
or not at all..
or not exactly.
because so easily
the scaredy rabbit
or the sneaky
bird of prey..
may unilaterally choose
to cut the thread..
and rather sadly..
slip away, instead.
I, however, shed
no salty tears for them..
I thank them for the memories
we shared.
and as they see themselves
out of my life for good..
I walk them to the door
and open it for them.
(a method tried and true)
I offer them to take a walk
without me..
just for a breather
of fresh air.
I smile.. to show them
that I care.
I kindly wave them on
as they continue walking
far far far away.
and then
as any
blindly loving
hermit would..
for their sincerest happiness
upon a peaceful height..
I pray.
