God bless
my sneaky little
birds of prey.
Who circle
round me
in the sky
at night..
but lay
in hiding
during the day.
The moment
that my gaze
befalls them..
they disappear.
For, though they wish not
to be all too far..
They choose not to be near.
They wait for me
to fatten up..
until I’m worthy
of their mighty appetite.
Or else for some
more appetizing prey
to come along..
and serve as their
alternative delight.
And fatten up I shall,
indeed..
But maybe not for them.
Another predator may be
the first to snatch me up,
by then..
For, if they truly loved..
they’d take me now
under their wing..
And offer love
to aid my cultivation
as I grow..
rather than biding time,
strategically,
prior to swooping down..
with their sharp talons
bringing sweet release
of Death from up above.
