Poem 223

Your body is a shrine
built by your own hands
from the ground up..
Brick by heavy brick.
To demolish who you are
and to rebuild anew
from scratch..
that is your only
abracadabra
magic trick.

And yet..
However many parts
upon this sailing
Ship of Theseus
you choose to replace..
the ballast that it carries
always weighs the same.
Why not just toss it
overboard into the sea?
Maybe then you’ll finally
set yourself free?

Because
the purpose
of my ballast
is stability.
The very weight
that pulls me down
towards the seabed..
Is the reason
why I’m still afloat..
And not a sunken
shipwreck.

That is the reason
why I keep demolishing
and reconstructing
brick by brick
my humble shrine.
Because I still have faith.
I am relentless
in transfiguring
the death of old me..
into yet another,
more endurable
form of life.
