Poem 22

12 years until the point of no return.
2 minutes left for our species to mature.
For centuries we walked a rope stretched over the abyss,
And countless lives went down to keep this tightrope act alive.
Now do we squander all of it away and dive?
Now do we stop and take a break? Right as the rope begins to tear and shake?
And as the doomsday clock counts down to twelve,
Shall we be martyrs for a cause or cowards once again?
And as the doomsday clock counts down to midnight,
Shall we be ebbs or flows of this upcoming noontide?
