Poem 206

Many pirates sailed
The Ocean’s breadth..
Many found their
final resting place
upon her oceanbed.

But who’s the blindly
loving pirate
that she yearns for
most..
He is the mad dog..
one-eyed sea wolf..
the greatest poet
of all pirates,
of course.

The One who claimed
the heart of The Ocean,
soul of the sea..
And he didn’t even
have to pay so dearly for it!
He plundered that booty
practically for free.

And why is that?
Because he is The One
who got away..
He is the phantom
of the opera..
that is the game
he chose to play.

Except his resting place,
it seems, is not within
her suffocatingly
silent depth.
That is the sweet
and bitter truth
The Ocean seems
oh.. so.. unwilling
to accept.

His tombstone
rather sits
upon The Earth.
Because this
one-eyed,
blindly loving pirate..
finally knows his worth.
