Which love is truest?
Is it a love of thy neighbor?
The one who stands
before your very eyes?
Or is it love for someone..
Neither in the mountains..
Nor above us in the skies..
A love for someone..
Nowhere to be seen?
The one that speaks to you..
But only in your deepest confidence..
and only in your prayers
and your dreams.
The love that’s truest..
Asks the most of us.
It offers us no proof..
It asks us blindly
to accept its truth.
It asks us to believe
and to surrender.
It asks us to commit
and to remember.
To light a candle
for the ones we choose
not to forget.
So many of us are incapable
of giving such a love
quite yet.
So many of us are incapable..
of keeping candles of our faith
forever lit.
And yet, upon a throne of lies
so many of us choose to sit.
And yet, a crown of thorns
not quite as many of us
choose to wear.
We speak The Word..
But do we show the care?
But are we true practitioners
of gospels that we preach?
But are we true followers
of Him..
who leads the lessons
we elected once to learn
and many times to teach?
And did we take the message
latent in His Word to heart..
And is the truest love for us..
Indeed, the love of God?
The love of God,
to few of us who truly practice it,
is closest to the truest love
that we can get.
Too bad that oh.. so.. many of us
are incapable
of giving such a love quite yet.
