The Hermit & The Sun
Part I - “The Poet’s Folly”
Once again I had a dream
in which I saw reflections
of your holy light..
I promised you
to save my salty tears
until next year..
Perhaps I kindly lied.
Perhaps a speck of sadness
somehow got into my blinded eye..
Perhaps I am a little too unslept..
Perhaps I kept my cool in waking
just because I didn’t want to
make you feel upset..
But in my dreams,
if only that you knew,
how hard I wept.
Only an earnest fool
would grieve the turning
of a day to night.
Only a shameless sucker
would believe
The Devil’s promise..
Well, consider me
a shameless sucker
and an earnest fool..
for I just might!
I might just let The Devil sucker me,
and fool me thrice,
and then a-many times again..
Alas..
There is the quiet ticking
of a clock in earnest..
And then there is
the loud and shameless..
trickling of sand.
